Location
Khanty-Mansiysk is a town and the administrative center of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, Russia. It is located on the eastern bank of the Irtysh River, 15 kilometers (9.3 mi) from its confluence with the Ob, in the oil-rich region of Western Siberia. Khanty-Mansiysk is an independent city, but is the administrative center of Khanty-Mansiysky District.
Archeopark was on september 1, 2008 opened to the public. Since then, it has become one of the main attractions of the city. The park is located at the foot of the hill Samarovskiej Ostanets. This hill is a unique natural monument, because on the slope of different geological layers to the surface, so that the geological history of not less than ten thousand years in a single glance of mine could be present. On the top of the hill lies the archaeological site of the ancient settlement of Samarovo, which is the precursor of the current city Khanty-Mansiysk. The terrain on the hill is designed as a sculpture park with statues of prehistoric animals, among other things, a group of mammoths, and usage at. Khanty-Mansiysk is a skiing and alpine skiing center of global importance. Biathlon World Cup competitions are annually held in the city, and tourism infrastructure has been developed here quite well. The city was the venue of the 2003 and 2011 Biathlon World Championships, and in 2005 the first Mixed Biathlon Relay Championships took place here, and again in 2010 The city includes the Ugra Chess Academy, which has been the venue of the 2010 Chess Olympiad and the Women's World Chess Championship 2012 It hosted the World Rapid and Blitz Championship in 2013 and the 2014 Candidates Tournament. The FIDE Women's World Championship will be held here on November 2-23, 2018
